State Republican lawmakers are blocking an emergency voting plan calling for expanding both early and mail-in voting due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Five Republicans on the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee voted to defer the measure.
The proposal was looking to increase the list of voters who can request mail-in ballots and push the early voting period from seven to 13 days.
Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin spoke yesterday about the plan to extend mail voting by saying it is not how he wants to hold an election, but he is trying to address the concerns of citizens worried about catching COVID-19 while attempting to vote.
