The Health Department says over 1,200 people in Louisiana have died from complications associated with the coronavirus.

In an update released over the weekend, officials said 29 people died on Sunday, and the number of those needing to be treated with ventilators had increased slightly.

The state has tested around 140,000 people and seen just under 2,400 positive cases across all 64 parishes since the outbreak began.

Several New Orleans business owners took out a full newspaper ad on Sunday asking state officials to reopen the economy by May 1st.
