Split jury verdicts are no longer allowed in Louisiana after a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The justices handed down a ruling today that the Times Picayune reports could lead to at least 44 inmates receiving new trials.

Louisiana voters got rid of split jury verdicts in 2018, but it only applied to crimes that happened on or after January 1st of last year.
