Governor John Bel Edwards is green-lighting elective medical procedures to resume next week.

Edwards announced Monday that the scheduling of individual operations that meet time-sensitive criteria will resume on April 27th.

Officials say the move will help doctors perform treatments or surgeries to prevent further harm for patients who were forced to delay them when the stay-at-home order went into effect.

The criteria for which surgeries and procedures meet the new standards will be left up to medical professionals based on each patient's needs.
