Louisiana saw a jump of over 700 COVID-19 cases reported Friday as more labs returned testing results.

The Louisiana Department of Health said the total number of reported cases statewide was at 28,711, an increase of 710 cases. LDH added that 381 of those results came from two labs that were new to reporting and uploaded their historical results all at once.

"This means 329 of the 710 new cases came from the rest of the regular reporting across the state," said the department. "We expect to see more labs across the state onboarding in a similar fashion over the next two weeks as we work to quickly ramp up testing across the state and ensure the state has the most comprehensive data on testing."

The number of deaths from the coronavirus stood at 1,927.

Over 230 patients remain on ventilators out of 1,607 hospitalized due to COVID-19.
