City officials are sharing the status of New Orleans' finances during the coronavirus outbreak.

City leaders announced yesterday that the Big Easy could be looking at a $100 million to $170 million deficit in the $500 million budget due to COVID-19.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell and City CAO Gilbert Montano stated that they would be monitoring how much money the city was spending on their response to the coronavirus pandemic and warned that the cost may lead to the layoff or furlough of some city employees.

Mayor Cantrell compared the preparations to a car running out of gas and said city leaders want to make sure the tank has enough fuel to keep moving forward.
