The New Orleans Office of Transportation is closing down Moss Street near Bayou St. John to help enforce social distancing.

Crews began placing signs yesterday along the route informing drivers that the river side of Moss Street is temporarily restricted between Esplanade and Lafitte for the next two weeks.

Office of Transportation Program Manager Dan Jatres says the move is necessary to control the size of crowds in the narrow green space on that side of the bayou.

The road will now only be accessible to traffic for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles.
