The University of New Orleans is hosting a commencement ceremony online this spring as the COVID-19 pandemic makes large gatherings too risky.
School administrators announced yesterday that its virtual commencement for Spring 2020 graduates will be held on May 31st on YouTube Live.
According to officials, the virtual ceremony will have some of the same elements, such as a second-line parade and will feature video messages from Governor John Bel Edwards and UNO alumna Sheba Turk.
Graduates need to register by May 19th in order to upload their photo and be recognized during the ceremony, but officials say graduates will also be able to participate in a future in-person commencement ceremony if they choose.
