New Orleans lawmakers are beginning the process of trying to reform the city's law enforcement policies to help end violence against people of color.

Councilman Jason Williams, who heads the Criminal Justice Committee, spoke yesterday saying the time has come to change a broken system.

Williams is proposing a citizen advisory committee to review taxpayer funding to the police department and district attorney's office.

State Senator Cleo Fields also announced a piece of legislation called the Zero Tolerance Police Brutality Act he plans to introduce during the 2021 regular session.
