City Council members are proposing a plan that would wipe from New Orleans streets and parks any names "that honor white supremacists."
Members from the five council districts said they would introduce a motion next week to establish the City Council Street Renaming Commission.
The nine-member panel would be tasked with rooting out names of Confederate-era leaders and other symbols of white supremacy on streets, parks and other places in New Orleans.
The call for a panel comes as issues of racism and police brutality are at the forefront after the death of George Floyd while in police custody.
