New Orleans Fire Chief Tim McConnell says everyone inside a French Quarter hotel was able to escape unharmed during a fire last night.

McConnell said the fire started around 8 p.m. at the Quarter House hotel on Charles Street with multiple stations called in to fight the flames.

Witnesses said they heard an explosion before the fire started, but officials could not confirm those reports.

McConnell said at least two firefighters were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and both are expected to recover.
