An additional 1,354 cases of COVID-19 were reported by the Louisiana Department of Health Friday, bringing the total number of cases statewide to 54,769.
"The vast majority (91%) of today’s increase in case growth is tied to community spread rather than congregate settings like nursing homes," said LDH in a press release. "In terms of timeline, the specimen collection date of 92% of these cases ranges from June 19 to June 26, i.e., today’s big increase is not tied to a backlog."
26 additional deaths blamed on the coronavirus have brought that total to 3,077.
There are 700 hospitalized with COVID-19 in Louisiana, and of those, 73 are on ventilators.
LDH said there would not be an update Saturday due to a planned power outage. The department will resume updating on Sunday.
