The Police Association of New Orleans is calling for testing for all officers and their families after a high-ranking official was diagnosed with COVID-19.
A letter sent to the city on Thursday, written by the union's attorney, says the official who tested positive was present at protests and interacted with several demonstrators.
New Orleans Health Department Director Dr. Jennifer Avengo said recent cases of the virus had been traced to graduation parties and bars near Tigerland but not from protests.
NOPD officials said officers are already encouraged to get tested for COVID-19, but it cannot be mandated.
