City Council President Jason Williams is pushing forward to become the next district attorney despite his federal indictment on tax fraud charges.
In a statement on Monday, Williams said the felony charges won't stop him from trying to unseat Orleans Parish DA Leon Cannizzaro, who later issued his own statement calling Williams "delusional."
Williams is accused of inflating his business expenses by more than $700,000 to dodge over $200,000 in tax liability, as well as failing to report cash payments from clients totaling over $66,000.
He and an attorney in his office, Nicole Burdett, are set to enter their formal pleas at an arraignment on July 10.
