New Orleans City Council Members Move Forward On Street-Renaming Commission

New Orleans City Council members have given preliminary approval to the nine people who will sit on the street-renaming commission.

On Tuesday, council members selected the group who will evaluate street names across the city and decide which ones honor Confederates or white supremacists and should be replaced.

The list of appointees does not include any members of Take 'Em Down NOLA, the activist group that has spent years pushing to remove a wide range of monuments and street names that honor those who fought for the Confederacy or enslaved others.

The commission must receive the approval of the full council before they can begin their work.
