The number of reported COVID-19 cases continues to increase in Louisiana.

The Louisiana Department of Health reported 1,756 new cases on Friday, bringing the total to 63,289 since the beginning of the coronavirus' impact in Louisiana.

LDH noted that the vast majority of the cases were from the past week and nearly all came from community spread. 60% of the cases involved those 39 and younger.

Hospitalizations rose by 12 to 852. Of those patients, 93 are on ventilators, an increase of two.

The death toll increased by 23 to 3,170.

The Louisiana Department of Health said there would not be an update on Saturday in observance of Independence Day, though they would resume on Sunday.
