COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Louisiana, and the upward trend resumed in the number of hospitalizations statewide in Thursday's update from the Louisiana Department of Health.

LDH reported that an additional 1,843 cases brought the total number of coronavirus cases to 71,994 since the pandemic began.

Collection dates of the newest cases came between July 2 and July 9. 97% of the new additions are blamed on community spread with 39% of the cases involving those 29 and younger.

Hospitalizations increased by 20 to 1,042 with 110 patients on ventilators, up 5 from Wednesday.

The death toll increased by 16 to 3,247.

More detailed information, including parish-by-parish-breakdowns, is available on the Louisiana Department of Health's online COVID-19 dashboard.
