The Louisiana Department of Health reported an additional 2,642 COVID-19 cases Friday, bringing the statewide total since the pandemic began to 74,636.
"This is the single largest daily increase not attributable to a backlog since the beginning of the outbreak in Louisiana," LDH said.
Samples from the most recent positive cases were collected between July 3 and July 10. 97% are blamed on community spread of the coronavirus, and 39% of the cases involve those aged 29 and younger.
The number of hospitalizations increased by 75 to 1,117 with 122 on ventilators, up 12 from Thursday.
Also, state health officials are reported 25 additional deaths are blamed on the coronavirus, bringing that total to 3,272.
