Unofficial election results are showing Joe Orgeron is the new seat holder for the 54th District in Louisiana's House of Representatives.

Officials said yesterday that Orgeron had received 55% of the vote to take over the seat held by the late Reggie Bagala, who died from COVID-19 in April.

Orgeron, who holds a Ph.D. in high energy particle physics, is the fourth cousin of LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron and was also a good friend of Bagala.

Orgeron said he wants to continue Bagala's work on improving education, coastal restoration, and road infrastructure.
