Governor John Bel Edwards is unveiling a new emergency rental assistance program for those affected by the pandemic.

Edwards said yesterday that the program will provide around $24 million to renters in Louisiana facing financial hardships related to the COVID-19 crisis.

Edwards said the money will go to people struggling to pay rent because of shutdowns, lay-offs, closures, reduced work hours, or unpaid leave.

The program is designed to assist households whose income does not exceed between $13,000 and $25,000.
