LDH: Backlog Fuels Another Big Jump In COVID-19 Cases

The number of reported COVID-19 cases in Louisiana since the pandemic began increased to 94,892 Monday, with the state Department of Health reporting an additional 3,187 cases.

LDH noted that 1,583 cases were from a backlog of reporting results collection between May 18 and July 13.

"99% of the cases reported to the state today were community spread. 45% of the cases reported today are of individuals aged 29 and under," tweeted the department around Noon.

The death toll from the coronavirus rose by 29 to 3,462.

There are 1,508 COVID-positive patients being treated in hospitals statewide with 192 on ventilators, increases of 39 and 15 respectively.
