Researchers in Baton Rouge are looking for around 500 volunteers to participate in a COVID-19 vaccine trial.

Meridian Clinical Research is part of a global team studying the mRNA-1273 vaccine, which has seen promising results in early trials.

A total of 30,000 people nationally will be chosen for the next phase of testing the vaccine with Meridian's group receiving either the vaccine or an inactive placebo.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and preferably in a high-risk group for contracting the virus, like frontline workers or those ages 65 and older.
