Archdiocese Of New Orleans Announces Almost Two Dozen Staff Layoffs

The Archdiocese of New Orleans is laying off close to two dozen employees due to financial strain caused by lawsuits with victims of sexual abuse.

Officials confirmed yesterday that the Archdiocese filed paperwork last Friday in connection to the layoffs.

Around 19 employees are expected to be affected by the move, which will see their positions no longer available after September 19.

The Archdiocese has been hit hard recently by litigation with survivors of clergy abuse as well as the pandemic and in May began exploring Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
