The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry says they have found the first case in the state of coronavirus in a dog.

Officials confirmed yesterday that the dog was found to be positive for SARS-CoV-2, which is the disease that causes the coronavirus in humans.

Health experts say transmission of the virus to animals from humans is extremely rare, but those who are diagnosed with COVID-19 should isolate from their pets and allow a family member or friend to care for them.

The Centers for Disease Control has a list of recommendations for caring for pets during the pandemic, which can be found online at CDC.gov.
