Gretna Man Welcomed Home After Kayaking Down Miss. River Through 10 States

A man from Gretna is being welcomed home following the completion of a 2,500 mile journey down the Mississippi River in a kayak.

Joey Cargol spoke yesterday after finishing the trek, calling it the fulfillment of a childhood dream.

Cargol began on June 1st at Lake Itasca in Minnesota and traveled through ten states.

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser presented Cargol with an official Louisiana Ambassador plaque, and the city of Gretna plans to honor him at an upcoming council meeting.
