The Jefferson Parish Public School System is getting a late start due to the coronavirus pandemic.
On Monday, the school system agreed to delay the start of fall classes for two weeks after facing mounting pressure from teachers who said crowded classrooms aren't safe.
Students had been set to report back to class on Wednesday but are now scheduled to return to the classrooms on August 26.
School Board member Simeon Dickerson said the announcement was a step in the right direction.
