Patients With COVID-19 Resume Fall In LDH's Tuesday Update

The number of Louisianians hospitalized due to COVID-19 started to fall again in Tuesday's update from the state Department of Health.

LDH noted 22 fewer patients, bringing the statewide count to 1,204. Hospitalizations had been on a downward trend before a small spike on Monday.

The number of patients on ventilators did rise by three to 187.

State health officials reported an additional 644 cases of the coronavirus. Following the daily removal of newly identified duplicates and out of state cases, the total number of cases since the pandemic began in Louisiana stood at 139,125.

Nearly all of the cases reported on Tuesday were collected between August 11 and August 18. LDH said 94% were from community spread. 18% came from those aged 30-39, with the second highest age group was those aged 18-29 (16%).

4,431 have died from COVID-19 in Louisiana, an increase of 28 from Monday.
