Gov. Edwards: New Voting Plan Rolling Back Absentee Ballots Is Inadequate

Governor John Bel Edwards is criticizing an emergency election plan introduced by Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin.

On Tuesday, Governor Edwards said he does not approve of Ardoin's plan, citing that he feels it does not accommodate all voters during the pandemic.

According to Ardoin's plan, absentee mail-in options that were available this summer will be scaled back and most residents would be required to vote in person.

Ardoin says he fears the U.S. Postal Service won't be able to handle a potential surge of mail ballots this November.

Governor Edwards is now calling for an alternate proposal and if no agreement is reached, he expects the entire issue will be decided in court.
