St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis says the three-alarm fire at the Domino Sugar factory in Arabi is under control.
McInnis said last night that firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the blaze that broke out in one of the two ten-story silos at the facility.
It took longer than normal for St. Bernard firefighters to respond because they had been deployed to a staging area in Baton Rouge to help with Hurricane Laura relief.
Officials say the historic property suffered extensive damage, and the 130 employees at the plant when the fire broke out escaped unharmed.
