At least six people are dead due to Hurricane Laura.

Governor John Bel Edwards said the deaths took place in Calcasieu, Vernon, Jackson and Acadia parishes, with four of the fatalities occurring when trees fell on their houses, while a 24-year-old man died of carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator inside his residence.

Authorities say another man drowned in a boat that sank during the storm.

Rescuers continue to look for survivors, but high winds have made efforts difficult.
