Mayor LaToya Cantrell is calling on the state for additional funds to handle the influx of evacuees following Hurricane Laura.

During a press conference Tuesday, Mayor Cantrell said that the city is asking for more money to ensure that the needs of evacuees are met.

Officials say evacuees are already being housed in the city, spread across 33 hotels.

Mayor Cantrell says it's unknown how many people have come to New Orleans following the hurricane and there is currently no timeline for how long the hotel shelters will remain in operation.
