Suspect Shot By Off-Duty NOPD Officer Near City Park Tuesday Night

The New Orleans Police Department says an off-duty officer working private security was involved in a shooting last night near City Park.

According to reports, the incident happened around 9 p.m. near a housing complex off St. Bernard Avenue and Milton Street.

NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said the suspect was holding a gun and was wounded by the off-duty officer after ignoring commands to drop the weapon.

The off-duty officer was not hurt while the suspect was reportedly grazed in the head and transported to the hospital for treatment.
