Officials are identifying the pilot who was killed on Wednesday night in a single-engine plane crash.
The Slidell Police Department said last night that Gene Fendler, the pilot of the plane and a lawyer in New Orleans, was killed in the crash, which happened shortly after takeoff from the Slidell Municipal Airport.
Fendler's law firm released a statement on his passing saying he was devoted to his family, loyal to his friends, and a lawyer's lawyer who will be missed.
The Federal Aviation Administration is now in Slidell working on determining the crash's cause, with early indications pointing to engine failure.
