U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond will leave his seat in Congress to join President-Elect Joe Biden's administration as senior advisor to the President and White House Engagement Director.

The New Orleans Democrat has spent the last decade in the U.S. House of Representatives representing most of New Orleans, the River Parishes and large parts of Baton Rouge and was just re-elected in a landslide to a sixth congressional term.

Richmond will step down in January. His seat will remain open until a special election is called by Gov. John Bel Edwards.
