A new report from the Metropolitan Crime Commission says homicide deaths in 2020 have increased by almost 70% over numbers seen in 2019.
Findings released by the MCC yesterday showed 189 murders so far this year in New Orleans compared to 111 during the same time frame in 2019.
MCC President Rafael Goyeneche says the city is on pace to exceed 200 murders in a calendar year for the first time since 2011.
MCC's data also revealed that shootings are up close to 78% in 2020, and carjackings have increased by 153%.
