The Louisiana Department of Health reported 6,754 new coronavirus cases Wednesday.
State health officials noted that was the highest number of daily cases reported that did not include a backlog or two days worth of reporting. The previous record was set December 9 with 4,339 cases reported.
The latest spike in cases brought the total number reported since the pandemic began to 311,229. Of those, LDH says 263,712 are presumed recovered, an increase of 16,211 from last week.
Hospitalizations were up 28 to 1,717 while the number of patients on ventilators dropped by eight to 210.
The death toll stood at 7,448 with the addition of 28 deaths overnight.
