The Louisiana Department of Health reported an additional 6,882 COVID-19 cases overnight, pushing the total number of reported cases since the pandemic began to 333,524.
State health officials noted Wednesday's update is the largest number of daily reported cases without a backlog to date, with the previous high being 6,754 on December 30.
LDH also updated the number of presumed recovered from the coronavirus to 280,373 as of January 4, an increase of 16,661 from last week.
Hospitalizations were up 19 to 1,993 with 207 patients on ventilators, two more than Tuesday.
The death toll rose by 46 to 7,681.
