The New Orleans food and restaurant community is mourning the loss of Deanie's Seafood Restaurants owner Barbara Chifici.
Family members confirmed yesterday that the 77-year-old restaurateur and philanthropist passed away from COVID-19.
Dating back to the 1960s, Chifici and her late husband Frank operated Chifici's Restaurant in New Orleans and Gramboli's in Metairie before opening Deanie's Seafood Restaurant and Market in Bucktown.
Chifici is survived by seven children and 12 grandchildren, with funeral arrangements expected later this week.
