Mayor LaToya Cantrell is praising an announcement that Amtrak is planning to resume service from New Orleans to Mobile.
On Wednesday, the train service confirmed it would reconnect a line from New Orleans to Mobile with stops in Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula in 2022.
Mayor Cantrell released a statement saying reconnecting the route with stops along the Mississippi Gulf Coast will benefit residents, businesses, and visitors.
Amtrak says they will use the route that has been dormant since Hurricane Katrina.
