The lawyers representing a man whose manslaughter conviction for killing Saints star Will Smith was overturned are petitioning to release him.
Cardell Hayes' attorneys said yesterday they have filed for a bail hearing to have their client freed while he awaits a new trial.
In January, the U.S Supreme Court vacated Cardell Hayes' 2016 manslaughter conviction on the basis that non-unanimous jury verdicts violate the Constitution.
Hayes was convicted of manslaughter by a jury vote of 10-2 and sentenced to 25 years for shooting Smith and wounding his wife Raquel in a road rage incident in New Orleans.
