The final recommendations of the New Orleans City Council Street Renaming Commission are here.

Officials approved the new names Wednesday night, including a proposal to rededicate Lee Circle as Egalite Circle.

In their recommendations, commissioners removed Gen. Taylor Street from the list of streets to be renamed. While researchers had thought the street was named for Confederate Gen. Richard Taylor, they said this week it was more likely named for his father, President Zachary Taylor.

The full list of proposed changes includes Robert E. Lee Boulevard, Washington Artillery Park, Mouton Street, Bragg Street, Lane Street, Conrad Street and more.

Next, the City Council will consider the proposals for new names on 37 streets and parks.
