JPSO Releases Details About Fatal Deputy-Involved Shooting

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is releasing details into a fatal shooting on Saturday involving two deputies.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto confirmed yesterday that 30-year-old Joshua Mitchell was killed in the altercation after twice pointing a gun at deputies during a standoff.

Authorities were called to Mitchell's apartment off Park Manor Drive after a woman called to report that he sexually abused her child.

Lopinto said forensics has determined police bullets killed Mitchell, and his wounds were not self-inflicted.
