Louisiana Creates Award Honoring Only Black Governor, P.B.S. Pinchback

Louisiana has introduced a new award in honor of its only black governor.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced last week the creation of the P.B.S. Legacy Award after P.B.S. Pinchback to acknowledge the contributions of African American leaders in Louisiana.

Pinchback was a black man who briefly served as Louisiana's governor from December 1872 until January 1873 after the impeachment of Governor Henry C. Warmoth.

In its inagural year, the award was bestowed upon retired Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Bernette Johnson.
