An overpass at the intersection of Highways 22 and 190 is being renamed in honor of a Mandeville Police Captain killed in the line of duty.
On Monday, Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a bill authorizing the roadway to be christened as the Captain Vincent N. Liberto Junior Memorial Overpass.
Liberto was shot and killed near the overpass in 2019 while pursuing a suspect during a car chase.
Officials recently removed a temporary memorial to Liberto, saying a more permanent marker was set to be created.
