The New Orleans City Council is looking at an amendment that would raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour.

Council members Kristen Palmer, Donna Glapion, Jay Banks, and Cyndi Nguyen on Monday introduced the Living Wage Ordinance to increase wages from $7.25 per hour.

The wage increase would apply to contractors with $25,000 or more in annual city contracts, recipients of city financial assistance, and employee time spent on city projects.

If approved, the increase would be phased in over two years.
