The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East says it is working on a plan to repair a large sinkhole on a levee along the New Orleans lakefront.

Authorities said yesterday that they discovered the sinkhole behind a picnic shelter between Robert E. Lee and Canal boulevards on Lakeshore Drive. The sinkhole is an estimated five feet in diameter and nearly ten feet deep.

Engineering Director Chris Humphreys said when a plan to fix the hole is finished, repairs should take only a few days to complete.
