Top law enforcement leaders in St. Tammany Parish are voicing their opposition to a proposed casino resort near Slidell.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith and Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal held a press conference on Tuesday to argue against the $325 million project.

Smith and Fandal said the casino could cause an increase in crimes like human trafficking, prostitution, and drug offenses.

The two leaders said they were not against gambling but want residents to go to established casino sites in New Orleans or Mississippi.
