Masks are required for Louisiana public school students until the start of September.
Gov. John Bel Edwards has sent a letter to Education Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley saying K-through-12 students will need to cover their faces due to the current wave of coronavirus.
There are exceptions including athletes involved in organized activities, those eating or drinking, and those giving a speech to an audience.
The Governor's Office also criticized state Attorney General Jeff Landry of trying to "undermine public confidence" on masks after Landry sent a letter to his workers earlier this week saying they could use philosophical or religious reasons to not cover their faces.
