LSU will require students to get the COVID-19 vaccine once one or more received full authorization from the FDA, university president William Tate announced Thursday.

"Our collective experience this academic year depends on our ability to navigate the pandemic. You share in the responsibility of lowering our risk of disease spread," Tate said in a statement to new and returning students.

The university recently announced that students returning for the fall semester would have to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. Unvaccinated students would also have to test regularly.

LSU will begin welcoming students back to campus housing on Friday, August 13.
