French Quarter Fest organizers announced Friday the 2021 edition, scheduled for September 30 through October 2, will be cancelled due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.
"After careful consideration and with consultation from a host of experts including City and State officials, we concluded this was the best decision for the safety and security of our community," said Emily Madero, CEO of French Quarter Festivals, Inc.
Organizers also announced they, along with the festival's presenting partner Chevron, would provide "critical relief payments" to the musicians and workers impacted by the event's cancellation.
"We hope our funding will assist these incredible artists during this challenging time," said Leah Brown, public affairs manager for Chevron's Gulf of Mexico business unit.
The festival is slated to return in April of 2022.
